Drip irrigation is a system designed to deliver water and nutrients to crops in the most efficient manner. The system essentially applies water and nutrients directly to the root zone of the plants to improve effectiveness. Thus, drip irrigation is the most advanced technology available to farmers for achieving higher yield in the context of limited resources.
A drip irrigation system consists of a network of "driplines" arranged along the rows of crops. These driplines are embedded with "drippers" or "emitters" spaced to coincide with each crop. The drippers emit drops of water along with plant nutrients directly at the root zone, ensuring the goal of "per drop more crop."
